Cinque Terre Trails: Riomaggiore to Monterroso, Italy

We were told that the trail from Monterossa to Vernazza and then to Cornigia were closed and the sign said they were. But we learned from the locals that closed really means not patrolled. So like the locals we hiked them and even though it wasted ember and rainy they were amazing. You have to be in shape and a good hiker. Beautiful views and the trails are well marked. if you are going to take the train back you need to know that the Cornigia station is a good downhill hike from the town. The important point is to ignore the closed trail sign unless the weather is really bad. The second secret is that if you can handle these two legs, then take the hike from Monterossa to Levante which is incredible although not part of the five lands... review of Val W
